Hi! My name is Sam, a.k.a. “Modern Day Hippie Mama”. I’m a “MOMMY!!!!!!” to 4 beautiful little girls, a dog that I’m slowly starting to dislike less, and have a pretty alright relationship with that guy I live with.
You may wonder why I call myself “Modern Day Hippie Mama”. This website actually started a few years ago as a means to sell laundry soap that I made out of berries that fall of a tree. Yep, soapnuts. If you haven’t heard of them, I highly recommend checking them out because they’re really natural and neato.
When that didn’t work out I took the advice of my friends on Facebook who told me to start a blog! I’m a hippie at heart; I love growing my garden, making kombucha, being barefoot, and being conscious about my carbon footprint. On the other hand I enjoy modern day luxuries like my cell phone, fishy crackers, and my Dodge Caravan. Combine the two and you have the perfect combination of Modern Day Hippie Mama! (P.S. Click here to see if YOU are a Modern Day Hippie Mama, too!!)
I was 19 when I got knocked up (for real) with my first daughter. It’s been a wild ride to get to 4 kids and a reasonable level of comfort as a mother. It’s taken a lot of self-care and a heck of a lot of support from other mamas who have shared their chaos with me and made me feel a tad more normal.
During a bout of post partum depression a while ago I realized the importance of having a strong foundation, whether it’s from friends, family, or an online community. My village got me through some tough times and now it’s now my turn to return the favor! Motherhood is tough, but focusing on the funny side of it (obviously with a glass of wine) will help make it a little bit easier. My hope is that you’ll relate to the stories I tell and the views I share, and that you’ll find some useful ideas and information. At the very least I hope you get a good laugh!
Writing is what I do when I’m not making snacks for the kids, spending time outdoors in my beautiful province of British Columbia or attempting some sort of craft or hippie-dippie recipe. Since I began writing my blog I’ve also written for a number of SUPREMELY AWESOME websites, including: Tipsy Tiaras, Sammiches & Psych Meds, DIY family garden, and Red Tricycle.
Are the kids starting to get bored?
